About Us
According to Medieval Bestiaries, the Leucrota is the swiftest of wild animals. It is a composite animal with the head of a badger, the chest and front legs of a lion, the hindquarters and cloven hooves of a stag, and a mouth that stretches from ear to ear lined with a single row of bone.
So why a Leucrota? Well, because it’s different, just like them. They’re proud of their uniqueness, running ahead of the pack by testing limits and working with authors on a personal level that seems to be missing lately in the publishing industry. While they are a smaller house in size, they are by no means lacking in any division with dedicated marketing and sales staff, as well as experienced editors and graphic designers ready to work day or night to make the chosen books the success stories they all deserve to be.
And unlike many of the larger houses that use form rejection letters giving no insight or indication as to why the book was declined, they promise to provide personalized feedback on why they felt your book wasn’t ready, many times even editing or commenting on the first few pages of your submission packets to give a little nudge in the right direction.
Leucrota Press is a member of Green Press Initiative, which means they meet GPI’s environmental criteria and support their efforts to reduce the social and environmental impacts of book publishing. For more information, please visit: www.greenpressinitiative.org.
The paper we use to print our books is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and SFI (Sustainable Forest Initiative) certified. Since 1993, the FSC has been working to promote responsible management of the world’s forests through public works. Both FSC and SFI certifications were created to ensure that companies use practices of harvesting wood that are sustainable and do not harm our forests by over logging. This in turn protects the wildlife that call those forests home, and the soil and water quality that those trees protect.
Publishing Profile
Leucrota Press uses offset printing for all of our books, except for Advance Reader Copies (commonly known as ARCs) which we print using on-demand technology through Lightning Source prior to publication for marketing and publicity uses. First print runs for new authors average around 2,000, though may be as high as 5,000.
Once accepted, Leucrota Press promises to diligently work with each author, new or established, to develop other marketing plans such as setting up bookstore signings and readings, proactively sending out press releases to papers and magazines around the country, and vigorously promoting each book to it’s full potential.
Starting in 2009, Leucrota publishes in two seasons: Spring and Fall. Their submission reading periods are Spring (January 1 – April 30) and Fall (August 1 – December 31). If accepted for publication, your book will be slotted for the following season in which it was read (if you submit in Spring and are accepted, your book will be released the following Spring season).
Leucrota Press is distributed by Book Hub, Inc.
